How Are You Doing?

Last week Elmo from Sesame Street posted on X: “Elmo is just checking in! How is everybody doing?”

As CNN’s headline notes, “He got an earful.”

Last week, I could have given Elmo an earful.  My husband called me with chest pains and shortness of breath.  He drove straight to the ER.  He was admitted to the hospital where we spent the next three days waiting for him to stabilize for surgery.  He had an ablation on Friday and soon afterwards, we were at home.

I have walked through the “valley of the shadow of death” too many times now and It was a stressful few days,  wondering what the future held.

If I had answered Elmo, I would have cried on his shoulder a bit.

I would have asked him to pray for my husband and for me.  I would have reminded him as I reminded myself that the Lord (who I trust) holds the future and that we were waiting on Him.

So we have been given more of life and that’s a good thing.  I’m grateful but more mindful that every day is a gift.

So I am asking you, “how are you doing?” How would you answer Elmo’s question today?
